Kaitlin Landolf, PharmD, BCCCP

President

Kaitlin Landolf is a Medical ICU/Neurocritical Care Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at the University of Maryland Medical Center and Clinical Assistant Professor at University of Maryland School of Pharmacy. She has been a member of the SCCM Baltimore Chapter for the past 5 years and has served as an interim treasurer prior to becoming vice president and president. Her vision for the chapter is to increase member involvement and educational opportunities for the membership.

Jessica Crow, PharmD, BCCCP, BCPS-AQ Cardiology, CNSC, FCCM

Immediate Past President

Jessica Crow is a Clinical Pharmacy Manager at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center and also maintains a practice site as a clinical pharmacist practitioner in the cardiovascular surgical intensive unit at The Johns Hopkins Hospital. She completed her Doctorate of Pharmacy at Texas Tech University, PGY1 Pharmacy residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital, and her Master of Public Health degree at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is board certified in four specialties, including critical care, pharmacotherapy, cardiology, and nutrition support. Dr. Crow has also been inducted as a fellow in the American College of Critical Care Medicine.

Dr. Crow’s passion is to improve patient outcomes through interdisciplinary creation of best practice policies and protocols that can be applied broadly, and she has received several awards for her work in pharmacy practice including the Johns Hopkins Capstone Award for Outstanding Achievement, Society of Thoracic Surgeons Critical Care Conference First Place Research Poster, Maryland Society of Health-System Pharmacy (MSHP) Excellence Award, MSHP Preceptor of the Year Award, and ASPEN Clinical Nutrition Team of Distinction Award.

Gianna Iantosca, PharmD, BCCCP

Treasurer

Gianna Iantosca is a Medical ICU Clinical Pharmacy Specialist at The Johns Hopkins Hospital.  She completed her Doctorate of Pharmacy degree at the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy at University of the Sciences, PGY1 Pharmacy residency at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, and PGY2 Critical Care Pharmacy residency at Atlantic Health System. In her role as treasurer for the SCCM Baltimore Chapter, she is excited to work alongside other professionals in the critical care field and provide opportunities for education and collaboration amongst all members of the chapter. 

Gimmie Vallangca, DNP, RN, AGACNP-BC, ACCNS-AG, CCRN

Secretary

Gimmie Vallangca is a critical care nurse practitioner at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center. He completed his doctor in nursing practice degree from University of Maryland Baltimore and trauma & critical care post-graduate training from George Washington University Hospital. His research interests include nutrition delivery to critically ill patients and point-of-care ultrasound.  He has been recently involved with the chapter in the past year and envisions to increase chapter membership and engagement.

John B. Sampson, MD

Membership Committee Co-Chair

Dr. John B. Sampson is a critical care anesthesiologist at Johns Hopkins University and Director of the Johns Hopkins Global Alliance of Perioperative Professionals (JHU-GAPP).  He is founding president of the Institute of Global Perioperative Care (IGPC).

His global heath engagement began as a medical student visiting student to Nigeria in 1989.  Since that time Dr. Sampson has engaged in work in numerous countries, founded IGPC and established numerous International Society of Critical Care Medicine courses in Africa and Asia. 

Dr. Sampson has an interest in bridging the medical and cultural divide between America and Africa through education, training, technology, and historical forums.  Through his work he has introduced dozens of physicians, students, and others to Africa in a manner that has altered their perceptions, careers, and interests.

Dr. Sampson’s current focus is to improve access to anesthesia and critical care training as well as access to sustainable oxygen and renewable energy in Africa through the SCCM African Infrastructure Relief & Support (AIRS) project.

Akram M. Zaaqoq, MD, MPH

Membership Committee Co-Chair

Akram M. Zaaqoq, MD, MPH, is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care medicine at the University of Virginia. Also, the associate medical director of the thoracic and cardiovascular ICU. Previously, the medical director of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) at MedStar Washington Hospital Center -Georgetown University. He has broad clinical experience caring for critically ill surgical patients, including telemedicine management of such patient populations. Specifically, patients on mechanical circulatory support devices and ECMO.

Also, he is an active member of multiple professional societies, such as the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization (ELSO), the Society of Critical Care Medicine (SCCM), the American Society for Artificial Internal Organs (ASAIO), and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS). Similarly, he has many teaching activities related to cannulation and managing critically ill patients on ECMO. His clinical research is related to temporary and durable mechanical circulatory support devices. He has an extensive contribution to the medical literature and clinical practice that extends beyond the United States to the global level.
